We had a bird build a nest on our office window sill.  We spent the day researching what kind of bird built the nest and laid 4 light blue eggs in it.  It’s an American Robin!  This bird is part of the Thrush family so the boys decided it is our hobbit bird since in the book, The Hobbit, it says on Thorin’s map,

“Stand by the grey stone when the thrush knocks, and the setting sun with the last light of Durin’s Day will shine upon the keyhole.”

I put together a worksheet for the boys using a graphic I found online.   We also read about robins on Wikipedia and listened to a soundclip of a robin.
