Eliana is home from the hospital and no one has returned in the past week. Thank you for all your prayers!!!
I can’t imagine the damage that cold snap did further north with all the damage we saw here. That -28 last week decided to leave us with a token goodbye gift as it cracked one of our kitchen windows before leaving. Niki was also evacuated from her building at school last week after one of the pipes burst & sent gushing water out of the building, only after it cascaded down electrical wiring first.
Even the boys, who don’t mind playing out in the cold, could not layer enough clothing to entice them to stay out longer than to do their chicken chores or take out the trash. It didn’t take much convincing from my kids, while we were at the store, to buy a treat for our chickens who endured the cold. They repaid us with nine eggs the next day! (We’ve been getting 0-2 for the past 3 months or so)
I also added in some sunflower seeds, flax seeds, oyster shells, and garlic. I’m sure that had something to do with it too.
We’ve been keeping busy with plenty of indoor activities.
Niki gave the boys an art lesson. They drew an orange.
The big boys did another art project I called “Always Winter, Never Christmas” (Narnia under the rule of Queen Jadis)
They drew the leafless trees outside our dining room window with white crayons. Then…
…painted over it with blue watercolors.
We also made bird feeders for our yard. We hung them on the branches a couple of days ago & yesterday we had a plethora of birds to watch – robins, blue jays, cardinals, and even a couple of chickadees.
If my garlic survives the negative temperatures of last week, I will forever declare garlic as the easiest plant to grow in a garden. I’m hoping it springs back to life in the coming months.
I’ve been tossing a blog post idea around in my mind for a few weeks now. Tomorrow, I will be publishing a series of seven posts. They will be a photo journal documenting a day in the life of each member of this family through the lens of the camera & the click of their finger. (I’ve got ideas for Gabriel. So yes, mom may help him just a bit.) I’m actually looking forward to seeing these photos myself.
